was recalling a couple of track trivia that might be
of interest.Prior to 1952 the conference (Big 7) Cross
Country distance was 2 miles. The dual meets were run
between halves of football games on the tracks which
were inside the stadiums then. For two years only, 1949
and 1950, they had what was called the Dual of Champions.
The top three place finishes in the Big 7 and Southwest
Conference Championship meets had a Dual of Champion
meet in Dallas. The SW Conference then was Rice, Baylor,
TCU, SMU, Ark., Texas A&M and Texas. The Big 7 won
both years. Bill Carroll and I were on those teams.
