track trivia

I was recalling a couple of track trivia that might be of interest.Prior to 1952 the conference (Big 7) Cross Country distance was 2 miles. The dual meets were run between halves of football games on the tracks which were inside the stadiums then. For two years only, 1949 and 1950, they had what was called the Dual of Champions. The top three place finishes in the Big 7 and Southwest Conference Championship meets had a Dual of Champion meet in Dallas. The SW Conference then was Rice, Baylor, TCU, SMU, Ark., Texas A&M and Texas. The Big 7 won both years. Bill Carroll and I were on those teams.
