Itinerary 2007

In getting ready for this trip, a proposed itinerary was sent to David Bucura in Rwanda. David is General Secretary for the Rwanda Yearly Meeting for the Quakers and Coordinator of the Alternatives to Violence Project. He will be meeting me at the airport in Kigali and getting me organized. Here's my plan.


July 7 Saturday arrive Kigali  via Ethiopian Airways 1240 pm , meet David B and Christophe Nkunda
July 8 Sunday sleep AM and meet Christophe to do a seminar with his fellow students at Universite Libre de Kigali.
July 9-12 meet with mediators in Kigali
July 12 travel to Gisenyi with David to do an Alternatives to Violence workshop.
July 15 travel across border to Goma , Congo to meet mediators for three days (July 16-18) and return to Gisenyi and head to Bujumbura , Burundi via Kigali or down a rough road on the west side of Rwanda through Cyangugu.
July 21 be in Bujumbura and meet with local mediators
July 25 return to Kigali on main road (about a six hour trip)
July 27. Leave for Kampala Uganda by bus (8hours) and hang out there for two days and then leave for Kakamega, Kenya to meet with their local mediators.
July 30 Approximate arrival in Kagamega.
August 3 Depart Kagamaga for Nairobi.
August 4-5 rest, maybe see Steve Beaver, former Peace Corps colleague on his return to Thailand. He's been in East Africa several months conducting tourist safaris.
August 6-8 meet with Nairobi mediators
August 9 Leave for Tanzania, stopping in Arusha, Moshi, and eventuallyto Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar.
August 23 fly out of Dar Es Salaam to home.
August 25 Arrive in Dayton.
